CID Arrests Main Accused In Ahmednagar Liquor Party Case From Pune After Six Years Of Hunt
Pune 1st Sept 2023: Six years after the incident, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Maharashtra has arrested the main accused in connection with a case related to Pangarmal village of Ahmednagar district incident in which 9 people had died and 2 other suffered permanent disability due to drinking adulterated liquor in a party organised by a local Shiv Sena leader to celebrate her candidature in a local body elections. The CID officials have arrested the main accused Bhagyashree Govind Mokate from Pune on August 27.
According to CID officials, the accused was hiding in Pune and was working as a sales executive at a reputed firm in Mahalunge. Her pre-arrest bail application was already rejected by the court and Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) was already issued against her but she was hiding to avoid arrest by changing her identity. The accused was finally arrested by the CID officials following secret information.
Bhagyashree Mokate, a resident of Amednagar district was elected as Zila Parishad member in 2017. Mokate and Mangal Mahdev Avhad were announced Shivsena’s candidates for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in 2017. To celebrate the announcements, the accused had organised a party for voters and party workers where liquor and food was arranged. A total of 9 people had died after consuming the adulterated liquor in party while 13 others had fallen ill. Two of them have suffered permanent disability due to this.
The case was transferred to CID in 2017 and a total of 20 accused were booked for the offence. Of this, 2 accused have already died while 17 others were arrested and Mokate was the only accused who was absconding in the case till now. The police had invoked sections of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) after they found that around 63 different cases were registered against 19 accused involved in the case.
