Citizens Can Soon Register Property Documents at Any Sub-Registrar Office Across Maharashtra

Pune, 17th January 2025: By the end of April 2025, citizens will be able to register land and property documents at any sub-registrar office across Maharashtra, irrespective of the property’s location. This is part of the “One State, One Registration” initiative announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, according to Ravindra Binwade, the Inspector General of Registration and Stamps.
“Under the new system, a resident of Mumbai will no longer need to travel to Pune to execute a sale deed for property located there. They can complete the process at their local sub-registrar office,” Binwade said. The reform is intended to ease congestion in registration offices and reduce processing times.
The department is working swiftly to meet the 100-day deadline set by the Chief Minister. To ensure the success of the initiative, both hardware and software systems are being upgraded. “We are collaborating with the National Informatics Centre to enhance our registration systems. All 519 sub-registrar offices in the state will be equipped to handle documents from any location,” Binwade added during a meeting with officials to review the project’s progress.
The department has already implemented e-registration for first-sale properties by builders. Plans are underway to expand digital services further, aiming to reduce foot traffic in the offices. “We are assessing the performance of our offices. Underperforming ones may be closed, while new offices will be established in districts lacking sufficient facilities,” Binwade explained.
Having recently taken over from Hiralal Sonawane, Binwade noted that the department is reviewing existing processes and regulations. “We are committed to making necessary amendments to ensure a smoother, more efficient registration process and to eliminate any potential for corruption,” he said.
This initiative is part of Chief Minister Fadnavis’s broader vision to implement faceless technology for simpler and more transparent document registration, marking a significant step in the modernization of the revenue department, added another official.
