A candle lighting ceremony was organized at the National War Memorial, Pune to commemorate 16th Kargil Diwas on July 26. This event was attended by a large number of citizens of Pune who paid their tribute to the martyrs by lighting candles at the Memorial during the hours of last light of this auspicious day. Lt Gen Ashok Singh, GOC-in-C Southern Command on behalf of all ranks of Southern Command paid his homage to those who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil conflict by lighting a candle at the National War Memorial. This day reminds us of the supreme sacrifice of our 527 fallen heroes and others who valiantly fought the battle of Kargil with Pakistan on the icy heights of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This year marks the 16th anniversary of the grand victory.
