Code by Day, Chords by Night: Pune IT Pros Drop Hindi Indie Rock Album ‘Ufaan’

Pune, 16th June 2025: What began as late-night scribbles on a rooftop in Gwalior has now surged into sound. Ufaan (उफान), the debut Hindi indie rock album by Chambalguy & Project Indian Dust, officially released on 15th June 2025 across all major music platforms. A raw and heartfelt sonic experience, the album is a love letter to friendship, chaos, longing, and the quiet hope that underpins city life.
Recorded over just 60 days at Pune’s Gray Spark Audio studio, Ufaan blends soft rock guitar lines with Hindi spoken-word style vocals to evoke the kind of nostalgia one feels during sunset chai breaks or long walks under streetlights. The 10-track album is the first full-length release by Project Indian Dust (PID), a homegrown band of Pune-based software engineers who moonlight as musicians.
“Ufaan is that moment when chai spills over — messy, loud, but full of flavour,” says frontman Somanshu Agarwal, who performs under the moniker Chambalguy. “It’s about the surge of emotion — the unplanned rise that defines our twenties and thirties.”
🎸 Pune-Made, Soul-Led Sound
The album features songs like “Raat” (a quiet confession of late-night homesickness), “Dost” (a nostalgic call to an old friend), and “Na Na Na” (an anthem about rejecting stress). With no label backing and no high-end studio glamour, the band relied on weekends, office breaks, and a lot of tea to build their sound.
“We’re software guys who still believe in pen-paper songs in an era of ChatGPT,” says the band. “We embrace our flaws, learn from our mistakes and correct them. This album is our ‘hello world’ to anyone feeling a little lost in the rush.”

Each member of the band juggles a full-time IT job — Somanshu on vocals and piano, Rohan Aloni on guitars, Tushar “Palash” Chinchore on drums, and Chirag Bhamre on bass. Their unlikely origin story is as organic as the music itself: informal jamming sessions in Pune turned into serious recording, culminating in this professionally mixed and mastered album under the supervision of engineer Nolan Perry.
“We called ourselves Project Indian Dust because we come from nothing — like dust — but still rise,” the band notes with a laugh.
