Pune, May 31, 2020: The Department of Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) of the BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital had given a prediction till June 15 based on the statistical pattern. It was categorized as ‘Best’ and ‘Worst’.

Based on the statistical data, it was scientifically observed that the number of Coronavirus positive patients in Pune would increase. However, at that time, the lockdown had just begun. Therefore, there was no definite management on how the lockdown would be implemented.

It was predicted that at least 40,000 people would be infected in Pune by June 15. From the very first lockdown, people obeyed the instructions given by the government from time to time.  Not going out of their homes was a big part of it.

Punekars strictly followed the policy of not going out of the house as much as possible. Consequently, according to the statistical model in Pune, the actual number of patients was less than the actual number of patients.

Moreover, this could only be possible because millions of Punekars obeyed the regulations given by the government. The habit of washing hands with soap and water has become a daily practice and is one of the reasons this could be achieved.  Doctors at BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital said it is a visible result.

Most patients were detected in May in Pune. However, the number of patients in the corona-infected Pune district has remained around 7,600.
