Mumbai, May 31, 2021: Congress leader Ashok Chavan today while addressing a virtual press meet on completing two years of the Modi government’s second term and seven years in total, Chavan said that the Centre has taken all decision-making powers into its hands, but now the state governments are blamed for the increasing prevalence of Covid-19.

When asked if he had a favorite minister in the Modi government, Chavan said that “good words” could be spoken about Union minister and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari. He maintains a dialogue with other parties despite ideological differences.

Chavan said, “Gadkari is the right person in the wrong party. He has a positive attitude towards Maharashtra, but his powers are constantly being diminished.” However, he did not elaborate on his claim.

The former Maharashtra Congress chief said, “The price of petrol had reached Rs 100 per litre. Around 12.21 crore people have lost their jobs. Bangladesh’s per capita income is now higher than that of India. The policies of the Centre have devastated the country.”

Chavan alleged that the Centre has a discriminatory attitude towards Maharashtra on all fronts including assistance and GST compensation.

He also attacked the BJP on the issue of the Maratha reservation. He asked the ruling party at the Center to come up with a solution. On May 5, the Supreme Court struck down the state law giving reservations in jobs and education to the community.

He congratulated BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati for trying to meet the leaders of all parties to build a consensus on the issue of the Maratha reservation.
