Constable ‘forgets’ to salute senior police officer, made to do salute 100 times

Pimpri-Chinchwad (Pune), August 17, 2019 : A constable of Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate was made to do 100 salutes as he failed to recognise a senior police officer, who was in civil dress, on his first day in office on Friday. The constable from another district reported at the police commissioner’s office in Chinchwad on Friday morning, reported eSakal.com website.

He was still roaming around in the office to submit his posting order, when he across the senior police officer not in uniform. The officer saw that he didn’t salute him. Once settled in his cabin, the officer summoned the constable, who had traveled about 300 km to join duty here.

When asked why he didn’t salute, the constable apologised saying he didn’t recognise him. However, the officer was not satisfied with his reply and ordered him to salute 100 times. He was sent to the second floor of the building and made to do 100 salutes. Another policeman was assigned duty to count the salutes. The incident had become talking point among staffs at the police commissioner’s office.

Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate came into existence on August 15, 2018, after being carved out of jurisdiction of Pune city police and Pune rural police.
