New Delhi, 18th May 2021:  Anas Mujahid, a 26-year-old junior resident of Delhi’s Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, died hours after he tested positive for corona. So far 244 doctors have lost their lives in the second wave of corona in India this year.

Last year, 736 doctors were killed in the first wave of corona in the country. So far, 1,000 doctors have died in the country due to corona. Mujahid has parents and four siblings in his family. A week has passed since Mujahid’s death, but his friend and colleague Dr. Aamir Sohail is still not convinced about this incident.

Mujahid was seeing slight symptoms of the corona. He had a sore throat and tested positive for corona in a rapid antigen test. He died a few hours later. Mujahid was not even vaccinated with Corona. Dr. Aamir Sohail said, ‘It was a big shock. There were no serious symptoms of the corona. His parents have also stated that he never had any serious health problems. According to the Indian Medical Association, 244 doctors have died of covid this year.

This Sunday alone, 50 doctors died in a single day due to corona. About 69 doctors died in Bihar and 34 doctors in Uttar Pradesh and 27 in Delhi. Of these, only 3 per cent were doctors who had taken the full dose of the corona vaccine.

Five months have passed since the introduction of vaccination in India and even now only 66 per cent of health workers in the country have been vaccinated. The Indian Medical Association says it is constantly encouraging doctors to get vaccinated.

IMA Secretary General Dr. Jayesh Lele said, ‘It is unfortunate that we lost 50 doctors on Sunday. Since the first week of April, 244 people have died.

He said that there are still many doctors who have not taken the corona vaccine. “Every effort is being made to vaccinate all health workers,” he said.
