New Delhi, 1 March 2021: The opposition had challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get the corona vaccine several times. PM Modi gave a big message to the opposition today and got the same indigenous corona vaccine, which the opponents were questioning.

The vaccine that Prime Minister Modi was administered today is a ‘Covaxin’ of Bharat Biotech. Political rhetoric has been going on for a long time about the country’s indigenous corona vaccine. The opposition parties had many times as to why the PM does not take the vaccine himself?

Prime Minister Modi was given the first dose of the indigenous corona vaccine ‘Covaxin’ at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Delhi.  PM Modi shared a photo of vaccination on Twitter.

Two nurses can be seen in the photo shared on Twitter. A nurse is seen standing behind the PM and nurse P Niveda is applying a vaccine. Niveda is a resident of Puducherry. The nurse standing next to PM Modi is from Kerala.

PM Modi tweeted, “Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19. I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!”

Significantly, vaccination started in the country on 16 January. The health workers were given the vaccine first and now the second phase has started. In the first phase, 1.37 crore corona vaccines have been administered till Friday evening. 66.37 lakh health workers have been given the first dose and 22 lakh have been given the second dose. 49.15 lakh frontline personnel have been given the first dose.

Vaccinations on Saturday and Sunday were postponed due to changes in the Cowin app. A total of one crore health workers, two crore frontline personnel and 27 crores elderly and seriously ill have to be vaccinated.
