New Delhi, 6th January 2021: Amid the spread of new coronavirus strain worldwide, India is ready to launch the most extensive vaccination program. The first 30 million people in the country will be vaccinated in the initial phase.

Health workers, security personnel, people above 50 years of age, and people suffering from any diseases will be the early receivers. The government has prepared a complete blueprint for vaccination, and it will begin as soon as the procurement process gets completed. According to the central government officials, the world’s largest vaccination campaign will start in the country next week and be completed in three phases.

Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary of Health Ministry, said that in the first phase, vaccines would be delivered by air to primary vaccine stores run by the Union Ministry of Health, also known as Government Medical Depot (GMSD). There are currently four such depots in the country: Karnal, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. It is the State Governments and Union Territory Administration’s responsibility to deploy the vaccine stock as per their requirement. After this, the vaccine will be sent from the state stores to the district vaccine stores. This entire process will be monitored digitally.

In the second part, the candidates will be identified and registered for the doses. Health care and the front-line worker would not need to register, as their information is already available with the government through their department and CoWin app. Those who are above the age of 50 and people with the diseases will require registration.

The candidate will receive the message along with a unique health ID and QR code-based certificate after vaccination. Additionally, the government will monitor the candidate regarding any side effects and health issues caused due to vaccination.
