Coronavirus: Government orders closure of all schools, colleges, universities in Pune

Pune, March 13, 2020: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed to close the schools, colleges and universities until further orders in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad in the backdrop of Coronavirus outbreak, informed Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar and District Collector Naval Kishore Ram. However, they made it clear that the examinations of 10th and 12th will continue.

Till today, a total of 17 persons have been found positive with Coronavirus including 10 in Pune.

“Instructions will be given to schools, colleges and universities for declaring a holiday. The government has taken these decisions as a precaution. But students should not wander around without reason and they should stay indoors. The parents should take care of this”, the government authorities stated in a press release.

The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, has been declared in the state and it will come into force from tonight. Chief Minister Thackeray has also urged the private sector companies to allow their employees to do ‘work from home’ if possible.

In the backdrop of the rising number of Coronavirus, the Maharashtra Government has also announced the closure of theatres, gyms, auditoriums, swimming pools in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nagpur.
