Coronavirus: Maharashtra has more COVID cases than China now

Mumbai, June 8, 2020: A total of 1661 patients were discharged while 2553 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra today. 109 people died due to the deadly virus today. The current count of COVID19 patients in the state of Maharashtra is 88528, informed State Health Minister Rajesh Tope. China has reported 83,040 cases until now out of which 4634 people have died.
According to the health department, the total number of COVID patients in the state has reached 88528 out of which 40,975 patients have been cured while 3169 people have died. As on today, there are 44,374 active cases in the state. The recovery rate in the state is 46.28 % while the fatality rate in the state is 3.57%. Currently, 5,64,736 people are in home quarantine. There are 75,759 beds available in quarantine institutions and 26,760 people are in institutional quarantine currently.
Out of the 109 deaths today, 71 were men and 38 women. 59 of them aged over 60 years, 44 were from the age group 40 to 59 years and 6 were aged less than 40 years. 79 out of 109 patients (72.5%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc. Death toll in Covid-19 patients has now gone up to 3169 in the state. Out of the total deaths reported today, 32 deaths occurred in the last two days and the rest are from the period 3rd May to 5th June 2020. Out of the 77 deaths in this period, 51 were recorded in Mumbai, 8 in Aurangabad, 3 in Ratnagiri, 4 in Dhule, 1 in Ahmednagar, 1 in Bhivandi, 1 in Jalgaon, 1 in Jalna, 1 in Kalyan-Dombivali, 1 in Nashik, 1 in Pune, 1 in Solapur, 1 in Thane, 1 in Ulhasnagar, and 1 in Vasai-Virar.
Out of 5,64,331 laboratory samples, 88,528 have been tested positive (15.68%) for COVID-19 until today. As per the guidance from the Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. There are 3510 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 17,895 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of 66.84 lakh population was done.
