Coronavirus: Now Wankhede Stadium To Become Quarantine Centre

Mumbai, 16 May 2020- The coronavirus epidemic is spreading rapidly throughout the country. Maharashtra remains the epicentre of the coronavirus in India. Especially in Mumbai city, the highest number of cases have been reported. In such a situation, the historic cricket stadium of Mumbai i.e. Wankhede Stadium will be used for quarantine centre to deal with it and help people. For this, BMC has also written a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association.

 

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to hand over the Wankhede Stadium to the quarantine facility. This is also because the cases of COVID19 in the city are increasing very fast.

 

Chanda Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner of A Ward sent a letter to the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association), which owns the Wankhede stadium, to handover the possession of the area. Payment for the premises will be done later as per the appropriate rates. The letter mentioned that non-compliance with the directives will lead to action against the MCA.

 

The city is expected to receive rain soon before the monsoon. In such a situation BMC cannot use the ground but can be put to use closed-door facilities including the press box, president box, and some corporate box. In such a situation, the BCCI office will not be able to open soon. Maharashtra has the highest number of 27524 active cases. More than 6 thousand people have lost their lives here.
