Coronavirus Pandemic: Pune Festival 2020 cancelled

Pune, July 30, 2020: The popular event Pune festival which takes place during Ganeshotsav has been cancelled this year, in the backdrop of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the city. The organisers have announced that the 10-day Pune festival which was scheduled from August 21 to September 1 will not be held this time amidst the pandemic which has badly gripped Pune.

However, they have stated that the installation and immersion of Pune festival’s Ganesh will take place according to rituals.

Festival is a confluence of music, drama, art, dance, vocal, sports and culture is organised by the Pune festival committee, Puneities, Maharashtra Tourism Development and Tourism Department of Government of India and celebrated since 31 years.

Pune Festival chairman Suresh Kalmadi and patron legendary actress Hema Malini have expressed their concern in a letter issued on Wednesday. They have stated, ‘we pray to Shree Ganesha to allay the crisis born because of coronavirus and hope to celebrate the Pune festival with much more fervour and enthusiasm next year.’
