Court Cancels Arrest Warrant for Manoj Jarange Patil After Fraud Charges in Pune
Pune, 31st May 2024: A case of fraud was registered against Maratha Reservation Activist Manoj Jarange Patil and two others at Pune’s Kothrud Police Station under section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of India. The charges include cheating and embezzlement. Dhananjay Jaysingh Ghorpade, a resident of Warje, filed the complaint.
Today, Manoj Jarange Patil visited the Pune Court at 11:30 AM to request the cancellation of the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him. The court agreed to cancel the warrant under the conditions that he pays Rs 500 bail and appear for the next hearing. Public prosecutor Adv Nilima Ithape confirmed that the court had initially issued the warrant due to Jarange Patil’s absence at the previous summons, which he attributed to his involvement in the Maratha reservation protests.
Case Details:
Complainant Dhananjay Ghorpade, a drama actor and producer, alleged that Jarange Patil and two others contracted him to perform six shows of his drama ‘Shambhuraje’ in Jalna district. They agreed on a payment of Rs 5 lakh per show, totalling Rs 30 lakh. However, despite the six shows being performed in 2013, Ghorpade claimed he did not receive the full payment.
The court directed the police to register the crime by CrPC section 156(3), leading to the case being filed at Kothrud Police Station. Due to his non-appearance at previous hearings, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant. Jarange Patil attended court today to have the warrant cancelled, emphasizing the importance of respecting the law and fulfilling his duties. He also stated that the matter is still under trial and cannot be discussed further.
