Mumbai/Pune, 12th June 2025: Maharashtra continues to witness a gradual uptick in Covid-19 cases, with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) confirming 48 new infections on Thursday, while Mumbai reported 25 fresh cases. With this, the state’s active caseload has climbed to 112.

According to health authorities, the majority of newly infected individuals across both cities are experiencing only mild, flu-like symptoms. A senior civic health officer in Pune stated, “There is no cause for panic at the moment. The symptoms are largely manageable, and none of the patients have required hospitalisation so far.”

Until earlier this month, Mumbai had been contributing the highest number of cases to the state’s daily count. However, officials noted a shift in trend since the final week of May, with cities like Pune now seeing a steeper rise.

Since mid-May, the state has recorded 21 Covid-related deaths, including four fatalities in Mumbai. Officials clarified that those who succumbed to the virus had pre-existing medical conditions. “Most of the deceased were senior citizens with serious comorbidities such as diabetes and heart ailments,” a senior doctor from a government hospital said. .
