COVID19 lockdown: Organ donation information, awareness goes online
Pune, June 9, 2020: In these testing times during COVID19, where worldwide the focus is to defeat Coronavirus and save as many lives as possible, many other things are taking a back seat. One of these is organ donation information and awareness. As organ donation rate in India is very less and with this pandemic, effort of various stakeholder involved has been restricted to a large extent.
‘I Gift Life foundation’, a city based NGO focused on saving lives via organ donation and their efforts was also greatly restricted due to lockdown and social distancing. In March-April they had plans to reach out to 21 villages and cover approx. 50000+ people plus to cover one of the MNC across India, which are on hold now.
When contacted, their co-founders Tejpal Singh and Naina Batra informed us that, ‘I Gift Life” team initially was bit lost on what to do, but quickly realised that the only way forward is to go online and engage people. This called for innovation and the team quick brainstormed and worked on various initiatives.
They have made a first of kind in India, a game on organ donation awareness called “IGiftLife”, and made it available on play store. They believe that gamification will help them reach to masses, as this game is available in English, Hindi and Marathi.
They have made a chatbot “Hope”, which is available on their website igiftlife.com , which provides all the basic information about organ donation. Do visit the website or use https://bot.dialogflow.com/igiftlife to access the chatbot.
The launched a song on organ donation, to engage masses, you can view the song on their YouTube channel “IGiftlife foundation” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbAAMSXrz1g&t=8s
They have signed a MoU with NHRD Pune Chapter and in all the webinars conducted by them (almost 2 per week), an appeal is being made for participants to invite them for online webinars on organ donation. They quickly made animated videos on organ donation, which can be watched on their YouTube channel.
They are currently working on making the chatbot available on Google Assistant and Alexa, two more games and two more songs on organ donation. They are also planning to start interviews series with all stakeholders involved in organ donation process. They are also planning to reach out to public figures and celebrities, so that they can reach out to many more people.
