New Delhi, 13th May 2021: Covishield doses can now be taken between gaps of 12-16 weeks; in fact, the central government on Thursday accepted the recommendation of the government group NTAGI. Yet there was a 6 to 8-week gap between the two doses of Covishield.

Based on existing evidence, particularly from the UK, the Covid-19 working group suggested increasing the interval between two doses of the Covishield vaccine to 12 to 16 weeks.

The group also said in its recommendations that pregnant women could be given the option to get any vaccine of Covid-19 and that breastfeeding women could be vaccinated at any time after giving birth. These suggestions from NTAGI will be forwarded to the National Expert Group on Covid-19 (NEGVAC), which oversees vaccination, for approval. However, no final decision has been taken yet.
