Crime Rate Declines Sharply in Pimpri-Chinchwad for First Time in Years, Says Police Commissioner
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 7th January 2026: In a significant development for city policing, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has reported a marked decline in crime for the first time in several years. Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaubey, addressing a press conference on Thursday, said sustained and targeted action against organised crime, illegal activities, arms offences, and cybercrime has led to improved law and order across the city.
Highlighting the scale of enforcement, Commissioner Chaubey said police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against 213 accused linked to 45 organised crime syndicates during the year. Additionally, 35 repeat offenders were detained under the MPDA Act, while 368 criminals were externed from the city to curb their activities.
As part of a comprehensive drive against unlawful trades, police registered 5,818 cases related to illegal businesses in 2025, seizing goods worth Rs 16.37 crore. Action against illegal arms possession resulted in 205 cases, with 253 arrests and the recovery of 243 firearms and 395 cartridges, officials said.
Efforts to tackle cybercrime also yielded results, with police arresting 215 accused and recovering Rs 24.38 crore, which was returned to affected victims. The Commissioner noted improved detection rates in serious crimes, stating that murder cases declined from 85 in 2024 to 63 in 2025, with police solving 62 of the cases. Detection rates in vehicle theft and robbery cases were also described as encouraging.
On crimes against women, Chaubey said police registered 301 rape cases, all of which have been solved. Of the 392 molestation cases, investigations in 382 cases have been completed, reflecting prompt action and accountability by the force.
Summing up the year’s performance, the Police Commissioner said consistent enforcement and preventive measures have helped establish stronger control over criminal activities, earning positive feedback from residents. Senior police officials Shashikant Mahavarkar, Sarang Awad, and Basavaraj Teli were present at the briefing.
