Cyber Thieves Con Senior Citizen in Pune, Claiming Son’s Arrest Over Rape Case
Sahakar Nagar, 8th December 2024: A senior citizen from Pune was duped of Rs 2.5 lakh by cyber thieves who falsely claimed that the senior citizen’s son was involved in a rape case and would be arrested. The cyber thieves posed as officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and instilled fear of legal action. The senior citizen, who resides in the Parvati area, reported the incident to the Sahakar Nagar Police Station under the Pune City Police Commissionerate.
On 27th August, the cyber thieves contacted the senior citizen. A man, identifying himself as Dheeraj Kumar from the CBI, told the victim that his son was involved in a rape case and would be arrested, adding that all his relatives’ names would also be included in the case. To avoid legal action, the accused demanded money. Fearing the consequences, the senior citizen transferred Rs 2.49 lakh. Realizing he had been duped, he immediately filed a complaint. Sahakar Nagar Police are investigating the matter further.
