Pune, 28th October 2024: Over the past few days, the weather has turned dry, and night and morning dew has become noticeable due to a decrease in humidity. However, as Cyclone Dana impacted the coast of Odisha, moisture in the air is shifting westward, prompting forecasts of light to moderate rains during the Diwali festival.

Despite the official withdrawal of the monsoon, rains continued across the state in the first and second weeks of October. A low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea, combined with another in the Bay of Bengal, caused sporadic rainfall across Maharashtra. By the last week of October, however, rainfall had subsided, leading to a rise in temperatures, often referred to as the “October heat.”

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has now predicted rain from the 29th to 31st of October. On the 29th and 30th, a yellow alert has been issued for districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Raigad, Satara, Sindhudurg, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Bhandara, forecasting light to moderate rainfall. Additionally, on the 31st of October, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Wardha districts are also under a yellow alert.

With the dry weather experienced in recent days, dust levels have risen. The IMD has warned that air quality may further deteriorate during Diwali due to pollution from fireworks.
