Cyclonic storm to form over the east-central Arabian Sea around May 16

Pune: May 11, 2021: A low-pressure area is very likely to form over Southeast Arabian Sea around Friday morning which is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic storm. Thus, the coastal regions on the west of the country would receive light to moderate rainfall. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a forecast regarding the formation of the cyclone in the Arabian Sea by Sunday (May 16, 2021). If the predictions are realised, this will be the first cyclonic storm for the year 2021. Interestingly, during the month of May, the ocean conditions are cyclongenies.
Rainfall warning along the west coast of India
IMD has issued a warning of rainfall over Lakshadweep islands, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
While issuing a warning for Lakshadweep, it predicted heavy rains at isolated places in Lakshadweep islands on May 13. The intensity is likely to further increase and very heavy falls are predicted at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very like on May 15.
For Kerala light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely on Friday and Saturday. Issuing similar warnings as Kerala, the ghat regions of Tamil Nadu to receive heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places. Likewise, the coastal and adjoining ghat areas of south interior Karnataka on Friday and Saturday.
Cyclonic prediction
A low-pressure area is very likely to form over the southeast Arabian Sea around 14th May morning. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards across the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining the Lakshadweep area and intensify gradually. It may intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over the east-central Arabian Sea around 16th May and continue to move north-northwestwards.
Fishermen Warning
Considering the rough sea conditions, IMD has also issued a warning for fishermen not to venture into the sea during this time. The sea conditions will be very rough to high on May 16 while it will be rough to very rough over the Comorin area and along and off the Kerala coast on Friday and Saturday.
Fishermen in the deep sea are advised to return to the coast by Friday. Similarly, they are advised not to venture into the southeast Arabian sea, Lakshwadeep- Maldives area from May 13, the east-central Arabian Sea along and off Karnataka coast from Friday, and into the east-central Arabian Sea along and off Maharashtra-Goa coasts from Saturday.
Tidal Wave warning
Lakshwadeep will experience a tidal wave of about 1 m above the astronomical tide”, said IMD.
