DECCAN MUSLIM INSTITUTE PUNE CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS (1915-2015)

The centennial period from 1900 till date marks several social, economic, educational and political changes. The world history witnessed two world wars, the birth of new nations, famines, flood, diseases, extreme poverty, industrial and social revolution, change of governance i.e. from monarchy to democracy, socialism, communalism and capitalism. There were changes in modes of transport, communication, energy, medical practices, entertainment, housing and other technological advancements.

The phase was marked by the Indian Independence movement, the Indian Muslim educational movement with the Public Library movement in India. It was also a period of social and economic reforms and scientific and technological advancement. India had got freedom from the British Rule and undergone the trauma of partition. Post Independence and subsequent policies and planning changed the life of the common man.

An understanding of the activities in the earlier phase of the Deccan Muslim Institute from 1915 is essential to link the present with the past and to have a vision for the future.

The history of Deccan Muslim Institute would be incomplete unless seen in the context of that period. The study of this centennial period will be a guideline for planning the future with confidence which the next generation will take forward and bring a positive change in society.

Great leaders play an important role in the lives of communities, their wider vision, farsightedness, passion and planning help the community to develop in the field of social and economic sectors. Educational institutes and social organizations create confidence among masses. The Leaders’ generosity, their vibrant enthusiasm and visionary goal with a missionary zeal has to be noted with appreciation. Their involvement, commitment, dedication and devotion really deserve honor. Many of these pragmatic leaders are no more but their noble deeds still benefit the masses. We salute their sincerity of purpose and courage of conviction for the upliftment of the society.

The Deccan Muslim Institute Pune was established on 30th October 1915 by Late Khan Bahadur Prof. Shaikh Abdul Qader Sarfaraz Saheb along with the other intellectuals of Pune. It is registered charitable trust duly registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.

The aims and objects of the Institute were and are as follows:

v  To fight for freedom from the British rule.

v  To protect Urdu Language and culture.

v  To create awareness among masses through education

v  To Empower women and youth through education

v  To have communal harmony, national integration and international brotherhood.

v  To play an important role in Nation Building.

v  To fight for Human Rights

The dynamic personality Mrs. Abeda P.Inamdar,as the President,has changed the scenario of The Deccan Muslim Institute Pune. She has turned it into a beehive of activity. The optimum utility of the infrastructure, the use of Computers, LCD, Internet, Mobile, Laptop, Software and other equipment have enhanced the educational, social and cultural activities She has through these activities changed it into a multifaceted institute. At present the institute is carrying out following activities.

Deccan Muslim Institute’s ARS Inamdar Public Library is one of the best libraries, centrally located and well equipped with all infrastructure and modern technology. A perfect place where under one roof you get all the information you need. The vibrant environment creates a positive attitude. The use of modern technology with a human touch inspires each and every one to come again and again.   The Deccan Muslim Institute, Pune planned and celebrated Centenary year 2014-2015. The inauguration ceremony was held on 30th October 2014 with following programmes throughout the year for the youth, women and children, senior citizens and public at large.

“Apna Muquam Paida Kar” the concluding function of the centenary celebrations was organized at Azam Campus on 30th October 2015. On this occasion well known experts from YASHDA delivered the guiding lectures on importance of U.P.S.C./M.P.S.C./Banking exams and more than 400 students from Junior and Senior colleges were benefited .The dignitaries from literary world, DMI members, well-wishers, supporters were invited to celebrate the centennial year on 30th October 2015.
