DIAT Pune Organizes Six-Month Residential Cyber Commandos Training Program for MHA Officers
Khadakwasla, 6th November 2024: The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, has organized a groundbreaking “Training Program for Cyber Commandos” as part of the government’s initiative to strengthen cyber defense capabilities across India. This initiative aligns with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India’s recent advisory to establish special wings of cyber commandos within police forces across all States and Union Territories to effectively counter the growing cyber threats.
The six-month training program was inaugurated on November 5, 2024, at the Takshashila Auditorium, DIAT, Pune, in the presence of Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor of DIAT, Chief Guest Shri Rajesh Kumar, CEO of I4C, MHA, and Dr. G. Athithan (Retd.), Distinguished Scientist of DRDO.
This training program has been designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to address various cyber threats and enhance national security. A batch of officials from various central and state police forces will participate in this intensive training. The participants will receive comprehensive, hands-on training in various aspects of cybersecurity, including managing security incidents, enabling them to handle complex cyber threats and implement robust defence mechanisms across multiple sectors.
Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor of DIAT, welcomed all the guests and participants, promising an intensive and versatile training program at DIAT. He also congratulated Dr. Manisha Nene, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and her team for conducting this important nation-building program initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
On the occasion, Dr. G. Athithan emphasized the significance of cybersecurity in national security today. He also outlined the roles for which participants would be trained and the content to be covered for each of those roles.
Furthermore, Rajesh Kumar, CEO of I4C, the Chief Guest, briefed the attendees on the origins of the specialized training in response to the evolving cyber challenges and discussed the role of I4C, MHA, in organizing training programs for law enforcement agencies. The first batch of training for the Cyber Commandos has begun simultaneously in around nine institutes across India.
