DIAT Pune’s 6G Research Receives Recognition from Secretary of Department of Telecommunication

Khadakwasla, 13th June 2023: K Rajaraman, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunication, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, New Delhi, paid a visit to the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune on June 12.

During the visit, the Secretary was provided with a comprehensive overview of the ongoing activities related to 5G and 6G communications, as well as their associated components. The research endeavours focused on 6G technologies, such as Free Space Optical Communication spanning over several kilometers, Quantum Key Distribution for encryption, and the development of innovative sensors and 2D materials for Terahertz applications. Additionally, the application of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning techniques in modeling 6G networks was showcased.

The Secretary witnessed live demonstrations of these projects and was also presented with various indigenous products developed by the institute, which adhere to international standards. Expressing his satisfaction with the research and development efforts, K. Rajaraman lauded the work that contributes to the vision of an independent and self-reliant India.

He advised the faculty to maintain their enthusiasm and encouraged them to bring their products to the market through incubation programs and by establishing faculty-led companies. This approach would further foster innovation and entrepreneurship within the institute, supporting the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
