Dighi Police Seize 70 Foreign Liquor Bottles During Mask Checking Drive, Car Worth Rs 40 Lakh Also Impounded

Dighi, 24th April 2021: The officials from Dighi police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate have seized foreign liquor worth Rs 10,500 and arrested three persons. Police have also seized their Endeavour car worth Rs 40 lakhs.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Vinod Muralidhar Tapkir (30), Anand Dnyaneshwar Thorve (30) and Wasim Hussain Sheikh (25), all residents of Charholi in Haveli taluka.  

 

On Friday, a team led by Police Sub Inspector Bhadane was checking people roaming around without masks around 7 pm at Charholi village. “The accused persons were shouting loudly from a black Endeavor car and were speeding towards Patharemala. They were signalled to stop but they fled. The police team chased and caught them at Patharemala. During a search, the team found  70 bottles of McDowell’s no. 1 Reserve whiskey 180 ml worth Rs 10,500 in the vehicle without any liquor permit. They were taken into custody and the car was seized alongwith the liquor bottles”, said Senior Police Inspector Mohan Shinde, in-charge of Dighi police station.

An FIR was registered against the accused persons for offences under sections 279, 188, 269, 270, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act, National Disaster Management Act 2005 and Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

 

According to police, in lockdown, the government has ordered the wine shops to be closed but the accused possessed large stock. “The accused have told us that they purchased the liquor from Lucky wine shop at Charholi Fata. An enquiry is going on against the owner of the wine shop”, Inspector Shinde said.
