Pune, 9th February 2023: Pune International Airport’s D1 gate has been randomly live-testing passengers since January 12, 2023. From March 31, the authorities are planning to start the DigiYatra system – a virtual method of facial verification for all passengers.

Santosh Dhoke, Pune Airport Director, said, “Pune International Airport is currently doing random live testing of flyers using DigiYatra. Let’s assume that the DigiYatra system tests at least five flyers per day. We anticipate that the DigiYatra system will be accessible to all flyers by March 31. The civil aviation ministry will decide whether to open the DigiYatra system to everyone. We will send a report to the ministry of civil aviation.”

Dhoke added, “We are watching the flyers to see how they are adjusting to the system and how the new security system is operating. According to face recognition technology (FRT), the DigiYatra app has shown positive results in other airports, so he expressed hope that all travellers in Pune will soon benefit from it.”

The DigiYatra system will debut this year at the airports in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Vijayawada in addition to the airports in Delhi T3, Bengaluru, and Varanasi in December 2022. To use the system, travellers must first register with the DigiYatra application (app).
