Dowry Death In Pune: Woman Jumps From Terrace, Husband And In-Laws Arrested

Wanowrie, 26th April 2022: Fed up with dowry-related harassment, a 24-year-old woman jumped to death from the terrace of her building. Pune city police have arrested her husband and father-in-law and booked other family members.

The deceased has been identified as Divya Kanade. Based on a complaint from her father, Shamrao Bansode (50) of Aurangabad district, Wanowrie police station has registered an FIR against her husband Tarun Kanade (30), father-in-law Madan Kanade, mother-in-law Sapna Kanade and brother-in-law Arun Kanade.

According to police, the couple had got married in January 2021. Tarun works as manager with an educational institute and his father is a retired professor from a college in Aurangabad. The family members were allegedly harassing Divya for money and ornaments. Her father had intervened but even after that the accused continued to harass her.

Around 7.30 am on Monday, she jumped from the 11th floor of her building in Navratna Exotica society on Handewadi Road.

Police have arrested Tarun and his father for offences under sections 304b (dowry death), 498a (harassment of married woman by in-laws) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
