‘Drishyam’ director Nishikant Kamat is on ventilator: Riteish Deshmukh

Mumbai/Hyderabad, August 17, 2020: Film Director Nishikant Kamat, who is hospitalized for the last several days, is on ventilator support, said actor Riteish Deshmukh. Kamat is suffering from a liver disease called cirrhosis. 

His condition is said to be very critical. He is admitted to AIG Hospital in Hyderabad.

Earlier, the hospital said in a statement, “Nishikant Kamat (50 years old, male) was admitted to AIG at Gachibowli in Hyderabad on July 31 after complaining of jaundice and abdominal pain. Later, chronic liver disease and other infections were detected.”

Kamat has directed films like Ajay Devgan and Tabu starrer ‘Drishyam’, Irrfan Khan starrer ‘Madari’. Apart from this, he made films like ‘Force’ and ‘Rocky Handsome’ with John Abraham. 

Kamat is an alumnus of Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai, where he rose to prominence in the amateur theatre circuit. He made his directorial debut in the year 2005 with the Marathi film Dombivali Fast. His very first film received the National Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. The film was one of the biggest hit Marathi films of that year. In Bollywood, Kamat got recognition from the 2015 Ajay Devgan, Tabu and Shreya Saran starrer film Drishyam.

Debut in Bollywood with ‘Hath Aane De’

Kamat is an excellent director as well as an excellent actor. He has done many films like ‘Hath Aane De’, ‘Satachaya Aath Gharat’ (Marathi), ‘404 Error Not Found’, ‘Rocky Handsome’, ‘Phuge’, ‘Daddy’, ‘Julie-2’, ‘Bhavesh Joshi’. 

He played the character of the villain in the 2016 film Rocky Handsome. He also directed this film. He was preparing to direct a Hindi film called ‘Dar-Ba-Dar’, which is to be released in 2022.
