Drone Usage Banned in Pune During Palkhi Procession from June 20–23

Pune, 18th June 2025: In view of the upcoming Palkhi processions of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Pune City Police has imposed a temporary ban on the use of drone cameras in the city from June 20 to June 23. The decision has been taken as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and ensure the safety and sanctity of the annual religious event.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma issued the directive, citing potential threats to privacy and public security due to the misuse of drones. “There is a possibility of unauthorized aerial photography or filming in sensitive areas during the event, which could lead to a breach of privacy and public disturbance,” Sharma stated in the order.
Only government-authorized drones and those operators who have written permission from the Pune City Police or the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) will be allowed to operate during this period. Organizers, institutions, or individuals intending to use drones for any purpose must obtain prior written approval.
Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against those found violating the order. The restriction is being enforced under relevant sections of the law, and violators could face criminal proceedings.
The Pune Police has appealed to the public to cooperate with the security arrangements during the Palkhi procession to ensure a smooth and peaceful experience for all devotees.
The Palkhi festival, a major spiritual tradition in Maharashtra, attracts lakhs of devotees and involves large processions passing through Pune city, necessitating tight security protocols.
