Tourist Safety Fee to Be Introduced at Pune’s Scenic Spots; New Tourism Policy in the Works

Pune, 18th June 2025: In response to a rise in accidents at popular tourist destinations, especially during the monsoon season, the Pune District Administration has announced plans to charge a fee from visitors at various tourist spots. The decision, aimed at enhancing safety and management, was announced by District Collector Jitendra Dudi on Tuesday.
“There is a significant surge in tourist footfall across Pune’s scenic locations during the monsoons. However, overcrowding, safety rule violations, and unruly behavior have often led to mishaps — some fatal. To prevent such incidents, we are introducing a tourism policy for better regulation and safety,” said Dudi.
The upcoming tourism policy, expected to be finalized within the next 15 days, will outline a fee structure for entry to tourist spots. “The amount to be charged, security measures, and capacity management at each site are being worked out. The policy aims to make these destinations safer while also preserving their natural beauty,” Dudi added.
The initiative will be implemented through the Forest Committee — a joint body comprising representatives from the Forest Department and local Gram Panchayats. This committee will be responsible for installing barricades, creating designated safe zones for tourists, and regulating the number of visitors allowed at a time.
Drawing from his experience as District Collector in Satara, Dudi noted, “Similar measures proved effective there. We’re confident that Pune’s tourist spots will also benefit.”
The district administration has appealed to citizens and tourists to cooperate with the upcoming measures, which aim to ensure safer and more sustainable tourism in Pune.
