Drug Queenpin Busted: Kalyani Deshpande Caught in Andhra After Ganja Haul in Pune

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 17th June 2025: A woman running a drug racket has been arrested by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police from Andhra Pradesh. She has been identified as Kalyani, alias Jayashri Umesh Deshpande. The arrest was made by the Anti-Narcotics Cell.

Last month, 20 kg of ganja was seized from Kalyani’s shop. Three people had already been arrested in the case, while Kalyani, the mastermind behind the racket, had fled. After an extensive search, the police apprehended her from the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

The Anti-Narcotics Squad had raided Kalyani Deshpande’s shop, Kalyani Collection, located on Pashan-Sus Road on 24th May. During the raid, 20.736 kg of ganja worth Rs 11,27,700, along with mobile phones and cash, were seized. A case in this regard was registered at the Bavdhan Police Station.

During the operation, the police had arrested Kalyani’s husband, Umesh Suryakant Deshpande (56, Pashan), her brother-in-law Abhishek Vikas Ranawade (32, Pashan; native of Shaniwar Peth, Pune), and her niece Aishwarya Abhishek Ranawade (22, Shaniwar Peth, Pune). Kalyani, however, had managed to escape.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Patil of the Anti-Narcotics Cell assigned a team led by Assistant Inspector Vikram Gaikwad to trace and arrest Kalyani Deshpande. Based on local intelligence and technical analysis, it was found that she was hiding in the East Godavari district. The team traveled to Andhra Pradesh and successfully arrested her.

Kalyani Deshpande is a historysheeter. She was previously involved in prostitution rackets and continued to operate despite repeated warnings from police officials. Serious cases, including murder, violations under the PITA Act, MCOCA, and cheating, have been registered against her at various police stations including Deccan, Kothrud, Chatushringi, and Haveli.
