Dry Days Announced in Pune During Ganeshotsav; Restrictions from September 14 to 26
Pune, 9th September 2026: The Pune district administration has ordered restrictions on the sale of liquor in the city during the Ganeshotsav period from September 14 to September 26, citing law and order considerations.
While some areas will observe a complete dry day from September 14 to 25, liquor sales will be prohibited in other areas on specific days, including Ganesh Chaturthi, the fifth and seventh days of the festival, and during the Anant Chaturdashi immersion processions.
On September 14, 2026, Ganesh Chaturthi, liquor sales will remain completely prohibited throughout the day in the Pune-1 State Excise jurisdiction.
Similarly, liquor sales will be prohibited throughout the day on September 25, Anant Chaturdashi, when Pune will witness the main Ganesh immersion processions.
On September 26, liquor sales will remain prohibited in the concerned areas until the completion of the immersion processions. Establishments selling liquor located along the immersion procession routes have been specifically directed to remain closed during this period.
Restrictions will also be imposed for a limited period and in specific areas on the fifth and sixth days of the Ganesh festival. In areas through which immersion processions are scheduled to pass, liquor sales will remain prohibited until the respective processions conclude.
The restrictions will be particularly applicable within the limits of the Khadak, Vishrambaug and Faraskhana police stations under the Pune Police Commissionerate. In these three police station jurisdictions, the restrictions will remain in force from September 14 to September 25, and on September 26 until the immersion processions are completed.
Meanwhile, senior Pune administration officials have stepped up preparations for Ganeshotsav, with a focus on infrastructure, women’s safety, healthcare arrangements and law and order.
The municipal commissioner and police commissioner have gone into action mode ahead of the festival, with senior officials conducting inspection tours across the city. The officials reviewed road infrastructure, potholes, arrangements for Ganesh mandal pandals, lighting facilities and other civic amenities.
The joint review was conducted by senior officials from the district administration, Pune Police, Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Metro to ensure that arrangements are in place ahead of the festival and its large-scale immersion processions.
