Pune, 12th March 2025: The Central Government has launched an e-Blood Bank portal to provide real-time updates on blood stock availability, supply in blood banks, and upcoming blood donation camps. This initiative by the Health Department aims to streamline blood accessibility for patients in need.

Patients suffering from Thalassemia, Hemophilia, sickle cell disease, cancer, and other blood-related disorders can now access crucial information with a single click via e-RaktKosh. The portal, spearheaded by Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, is updated daily by all registered blood centers, ensuring that doctors and patients receive timely and accurate blood supply information.

Statewide Blood Bank Network
Maharashtra has a network of 395 blood banks and centers, including those run by the government, semi-government bodies, trusts, municipal corporations, and private entities. The e-Blood Bank portal will enable patients who frequently require blood transfusions and doctors performing major surgeries to access live data on current blood stock levels via mobile devices. Additionally, blood donors can use the platform to find nearby blood banks, centers, and donation camps.

Blood Donation and Supply in Maharashtra
Last year, approximately 21 lakh blood donors contributed across Maharashtra. The collected blood was processed into various components, including packed red blood cells, platelet concentrate, and fresh frozen plasma, based on patients’ medical needs.

The State Blood Collection Council has set fixed processing charges for blood and its components. All blood centers are mandated to supply blood at these regulated rates, ensuring fair access for all patients.
