Mumbai, 10 March 2025: Against the backdrop of International Women’s Day, the women’s wing of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar’s faction) (NCP-SP) on Saturday, March 8, 2025, urged President Droupadi Murmu to grant women immunity for committing one murder without punishment, citing rising crimes against women in India.

In a letter addressed to the President of India, Rohini Khadse, president of the NCP-SP women’s wing, expressed deep concern over the increasing violence against women. She stated that women want to “kill the oppressive mentality, rapist mindset, and ignorant law and order” in the country.

Referring to a recent incident of a 12-year-old girl’s gang-rape in Mumbai, Khadse questioned the safety of women nationwide. “The incident happened two days ago in Mumbai, think what the situation might be across the country,” she said.

She also cited the World Population Review Survey, which ranked India as the most unsafe country for women in Asia regarding safety and security. The survey reportedly included data on the abduction and disappearance of women, domestic violence, and other severe issues.

Rohini Khadse invoked historical figures like Maharani Tara Rani and Ahilya Devi Holkar, who took up arms to protect their land, arguing that women today should not hesitate to take strong measures for their safety.

Khadse, daughter of Jalgaon politician and former state minister Eknath Khadse, accused the government of indifference towards crimes against women. She asserted that the demand for immunity was made on behalf of all women in the country.

No official response from the President’s office has been reported yet.
