Chakan, 23rd August 2026: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday announced a series of immediate and long-term measures to address infrastructure deficiencies and traffic congestion in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial belt, with the government seeking to prevent industries from relocating due to poor civic infrastructure.
Shinde visited Chakan and Talegaon to inspect ongoing road repair works and held a meeting with representatives of industries and industrial associations. He said the government was committed to providing adequate infrastructure and finding a permanent solution to traffic congestion in the industrial area.
The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Uday Samant, Legislative Council member Dr Neelam Gorhe, MLAs Sharad Sonawane and Babaji Kale, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, industrialists, representatives of industrial associations and senior officials from various government departments.
During his visit, Shinde inspected several traffic congestion hotspots in the Chakan industrial area and reviewed the ongoing road repair work. He also inspected the use of M-60 hardener for filling potholes and direct casting of patches on roads damaged by heavy rain.
Shinde said the new repair techniques would allow damaged roads to be restored quickly and heavy vehicles to resume movement shortly after repairs.
The Chakan-Shikrapur road has developed extensive potholes, causing traffic congestion and affecting industrial operations. Officials are using geo-polymer techno patches and M-6 RMC with hardener as alternatives to conventional asphalt repairs, which often fail to withstand heavy monsoon rainfall.
The geo-polymer mixture reportedly sets within 30 to 45 minutes, allowing traffic to resume soon after pothole repairs. At severely damaged locations, pre-cast panels are also being transported by trailers and installed directly on the road.
Weekly monitoring of infrastructure
A special nodal committee headed by the district collector has been formed to address infrastructure-related issues in the industrial belt. The committee will meet every Friday to monitor the development of roads, drainage systems, footpaths and street lighting.
Shinde said repair work on the 54-km Talegaon-Shikrapur route, the Nashik Phata-Rajgurunagar road and internal roads in the industrial belt would be expedited to improve traffic movement to and from Chakan.
He also directed authorities to incorporate footpaths, utility corridors and cycle tracks while constructing new roads.
Metro connectivity under consideration
To reduce workers’ commuting time, the government will consider developing worker townships through industrial clusters, Shinde said.
He also directed MahaMetro to prepare a development plan for three proposed metro corridors: Nigdi-Chakan, Chakan-Rajgurunagar and Talegaon-Shikrapur.
MIDC officials to be available weekly
To ensure faster resolution of problems faced by industries, MIDC executive engineers and other officials will remain physically available in the industrial area one day a week.
Industrialists were also urged to use the ‘Maitri’ app to submit their grievances and track their resolution.
The meeting also discussed increasing the capacity of electricity transformers and planning load management, appointing an independent agency for waste disposal, and addressing water supply and police administration-related issues on priority.
The government said the measures were aimed at improving the business environment in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial belt and addressing concerns that had prompted some industrialists to consider relocating their operations.
