Camp, 16th March 2023: “Electoral literacy is the need of the hour for a healthy democracy in India” said by Prof. Dr. Vilas Aadhav, Director, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension, Savitribai Phule Pune. 

He was the Chief Guest at the inaugural function of a National Workshop on “Electoral Literacy for Strong Democracy” jointly organized by the Department of Political Science, Department of Computer Science & Computer Application, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Poona College in association with Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune today organized a National Workshop on “Electoral Literacy for Strong Democracy”. 

Dr. Adhav articulated Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s version of democracy which depicts a society devoid of any glaring inequality. He explained various ways for successful democracy.

Principal Prof. Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh articulated the need of Electoral Literacy for strong and sustainable Democracy in his welcome note. He urged that citizens must understand the significance of their participation in the electoral system of the country. 

Deputy Collector, Sidharth Bhandare, was one of the resource persons to this workshop. Bhandare advised to the students to sensitize themselves towards their electoral rights and insisted that every citizen must exercise their electoral rights.

Another resource person, Nadeem Inamdar, Senior Journalist of Hindustan Times, scholarly enunciated the current social panorama and expressed his concern over wrong use of social media by young generations. He suggested that new generations must be serious on their democratic rights.

Dr. Iqbal N. Shaikh, Vice-Principal (Science), Moinuddin Khan, Vice-Principal (Arts) provided special guidance & constant support in organizing this workshop. Dr. Mukhtar Shaikh, Program Coordinator, presented the objectives of the national workshop. Dr. Shabana Shaikh, Dr. Ahmad Shamshad, Dr. Mohd. Zameer Ahmad, Ms. Shaheda Ansari, Qureshi Imran, M. Umer, Ishrat Baig, Farooque Shaikh, Dr. Imran Mirza, Shabeena Khan took special efforts to make this event successful.

Shaheena Khan compared the program. Hatif Nazar Ahmad Qasmi recited few verses from Holy Quran. Saba Shaikh introduced the guests and Saniya Khan proposed vote of thanks. Total of 163 beneficiaries were present.
