Electricity Disconnected For 30,217 Customers In Pune Due To Unpaid Bills: MSEDCL

Pune, 25th August 2023: Over the last 25 days, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has disconnected the electricity supply for 30,217 non-agricultural accounts due to unpaid electricity bills despite repeated appeals.

Financial difficulties have hindered MSEDCL’s operations as outstanding electricity bills remain unsettled. Currently, Pune district has 780,611 domestic, commercial, and industrial customers with an accumulated outstanding balance of Rs. 200 crore 25 lakh.

In response, all authorized electricity bill payment centers of MSEDCL in Pune district will operate during office hours on Saturday (26th August) and Sunday (27th August) to facilitate prompt payment of both current and overdue electricity bills for consumers. Interestingly, even if the electricity bill is overdue by just one month, disconnection procedures are enforced as per regulations, irrespective of the bill amount.

Within the Pune Regional Division, Pune district comprises 679,378 domestic customers with Rs 134 crore 34 lakh in arrears, 79,418 commercial customers with Rs 45 crore 12 lakh outstanding, and 11,815 industrial customers owing Rs 20 crore 79 lakh. Consequently, the power supply for 30,217 households, commercial entities, and industrial defaulters has been terminated in the last 25 days. MSEDCL urges electricity consumers to settle overdue bills promptly to avoid the severe measure of disconnection.

Electricity consumers can conveniently make unlimited online bill payments anytime and from anywhere via the website www.mahadiscom.in and the Mahavitran mobile app. Additionally, MSEDCL has facilitated payment through RTGS or NEFT for all small pressure customers with bills exceeding Rs 5000. The necessary payment details are available on the concerned customer’s electricity bill. As part of the ongoing campaign, an independent team is investigating the electricity connections of those defaulters whose supply has been disconnected by MSEDCL.

In cases where defaulters are found using electricity through wires or cables connected to neighbors or other sources, action is taken against both the neighbors and the defaulters in accordance with sections 135/138 of the Indian Electricity Act 2003.
