Electricity: Massive Power Outage Hits Over 4.5 Lakh Consumers in Pune

Pune, 24th April 2025: A major power outage affected over 4.57 lakh electricity consumers in Pune city on Wednesday night after a fault occurred in MahaTransco’s 400 KV Jejuri tower line. The disruption began around 9:45 PM, plunging several key areas into darkness.
According to officials, the extra high voltage and high voltage substations in the city were impacted, leading to power failures in Kothrud, Hadapsar, Sahakarnagar, Padmavati, Bibwewadi, Vadgaon Dhayari, Sinhagad Road, Narhe, Yewalewadi, NIBM Road, Parvati, Peshwe Park, Mandai, and Fursungi, among others.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MahaTransco) has attributed the outage to a technical failure in the Jejuri transmission line, which was already under stress due to increased power demand driven by a severe heatwave over the past few days.
To mitigate the situation, the automatic Load Trimming Scheme (LTS) was triggered to prevent further risk to the grid. This led to the shutdown of several high-voltage substations including those in Fursungi, Kothrud, Nanded City, and Parvati.
“MahaTransco teams are working on a war footing to restore electricity using alternative systems and load management,” said an official. The restoration process went on till early Thursday morning.
