Empty Roads, Full Caution: Pune Traffic Police Remind Drivers ‘Diwali Is No License to Speed’

Pune, 20th October 2025: Known for its bustling streets and frequent traffic jams, Pune is witnessing an unusual calm this Diwali season. With many residents travelling to their hometowns for the festive break and others celebrating within housing societies or open areas, the city’s roads have turned almost deserted.
Amid this rare lull in traffic, the Pune City Traffic Branch has urged citizens to remain cautious while driving. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav issued a special advisory on Monday, reminding motorists that “empty roads do not mean safe roads.”
According to the advisory, while vehicle movement in Pune has significantly reduced, the risk of accidents remains if motorists ignore basic traffic rules.
The police have appealed to drivers and riders to:
Adhere to speed limits.
Avoid jumping traffic signals.
Refrain from using mobile phones while driving.
Always wear seatbelts and helmets.
Strictly avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
The advisory emphasizes that “your safety is in your own hands” and concludes with a message — “The real joy lies in safety, not in speed.”
The Pune Traffic Police have also deployed teams to monitor key junctions and ensure that traffic discipline is maintained even during the festive slowdown.
