Encroachments on Pune’s Hills to Face Strict Action: PMC
Pune, 18th April 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to take action against encroachments on hills in the city, including constructions and huts. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar confirmed on Monday (17th April) that notices will be issued by the Building Department to those in violation.
The proposed construction of the Paud Phata road from Vetal Hill to Balbharti has faced opposition due to concerns that it will harm the biodiversity of the hill. In response, Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil held a meeting of ward offices in the Municipal Corporation and directed them to protect the hills and take action against encroachments.
The municipal administration has since started planning for the action, with Vikram Kumar stating that notices will be issued to encroachments on hills in all parts of the city. He added that action will also be taken against encroachments that have taken place in the BDP.
