Engineer Among Two Men Arrested For Theft At ATMs, Rs 66 Lakh Seized

Pimpri, October 10, 2020: In one of the biggest money heist in Pune, two unidentified persons robbed two State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs near Maulinagar in Dighi on the morning of September 24.

Now both of them have been arrested by Pimpri Chinchwad Police Crime Branch. The two accused have been identified as Manoj Suryavanshi (30) and Kiran Kolte(35), both residents of Jalgaon. Suryavanshi is an engineer.

According to the police, the accused made fake keys and opened four ATM dispensers and decamped with Rs 66 lakh. “Manoj worked as an engineer with an ATM company and was a highly skilled technician. He left his job stating that he was underpaid”, said Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner Krishna Prakash while addressing a press conference today.

The city top cop further said, “Suryavanshi was the mastermind behind this heist. Both the accused went thrice to check the money in the dispenser but came back as there was less money available. Upon receiving information that cash has just been loaded in the ATM, Suryavanshi along with his accomplice opened the machine on September 24 and later, sealed the computer in an unnoticeable way”.

The accused did not carry their phones with them so that they aren’t traced. The CCTV cameras were also taped to hide their identity, added Prakash.

While investigating the case using the help of CCTV footage of the area, a team led by Senior Inspector Shankar Babar gained information about the accused. Meanwhile, Assistant Police Inspector Satish Kamble received confidential information about the accused person whereabouts. Acting on the combined information, the cops arrested the two accused.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch unit 3 has seized Rs 66.1 lakh cash and motorcycle worth Rs 60,000 from their possession. “Both the accused are in police custody for further investigation”, said Prakash.

This action was taken under the guidance of Additional CP Ramnath Pokle, DCP (Crime) Sudhir Hiremath and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) R.R Patil. The investigation team includes Police Sub Inspector Girish Chamle and policemen Hazrat Pathan, Yadu Adhari, Sachin More, Sagar Jainak, Trinyan Balsaraf, Pravin Patil, Gangadhar Chavan, Yogeshwar Kolekar, Rajkumar Hanmate, Rahul Suryavanshi, Vitthal Sanap, Mahesh Bhalchim, Pramod Dhakne, Natha Kekan, Gajanan Aglave and Nagesh Mali.
