Fake IAS Officer Arrested in Pune for Pretending to Work in PMO

Pune, 31st May 2023: Pune Police’s Crime Branch has apprehended a man from Talegaon Dabhade for fraudulent activities, as he had been posing as an IAS officer.

The accused, identified as Vinay Dev alias Vasudev Nivritti Tayde (54), a resident of Talegaon Dabhade, Pune, had assumed the false identity of Dr Vinay Dev and claimed to be an IAS officer engaged in confidential work at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The suspicion surrounding Tayde arose when he attended a program as the chief guest in a society located in the Aundh area. The police initiated an investigation, leading to his arrest. A case has been registered against him at Chatushringi police station.

The event where Tayde was present as the chief guest was an ambulance dedication ceremony organized by the Borderless World Foundation to aid Jammu and Kashmir. During the program, Tayde introduced himself as Dr Vinay Dev, an IAS officer working in a confidential capacity as a secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office. The organization officials became sceptical and subsequently alerted the police.

Pune Police’s Crime Branch successfully traced and apprehended Vinay Dev from his residence in Talegaon Dabhade. During questioning, he admitted his real name to be Vasudev Tayde. He confessed to impersonating an IAS officer and engaging in deceptive activities among the public.

The Chatushringi police station has registered a case against him, and further investigations are underway to gather additional evidence and determine the extent of his fraudulent activities.
