Pimpri, August 17, 2020: A family from Pimpri Chinchwad has accused the DY Patil Hospital of allegedly switching their newborn baby. The family said that at the time of delivery, the hospital staff said that a baby boy was born to the mother. However, after four days, they returned a girl child to them.

Relatives of the child have even produced a birth certificate from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) which states the gender of the newly born baby as male. The hospital has however refuted these allegations by the family and has said that the hospital had registered the gender of the baby as female.

On August 11, the mother Rita Jagdhane gave birth to a baby in the presence of her mother Hirabai Navpute. Rita’s mother claims that after the delivery, the nurse of the hospital told them that the baby was a boy. She also said that because the baby was underweight, the staff took the newborn child to keep him in an incubator and she even gave her thumbprint for the procedure.

Nobody had seen the child because the nurses took the mother’s breast milk to feed the baby in the incubator. Hirabai even informed her son-in-law Anil Jagdhane that a baby boy was born to her daughter.

When the child was handed over to the mother on August 15 after the baby’s health improved, the family realised that the baby was a girl. Hirabai then went on to question the staff.

Dr JS Bhavalkar, dean of the Dr DY Patil Hospital said that the records in the hospital clearly state the newly born child was a girl. There is no error on part of the hospital.
