Pune: Rajesh Deshmukh is new district collector
Pune, August 17, 2020: IAS officer Rajesh Deshmukh has been appointed as the new Pune district collector. Deshmukh, a 2008 batch IAS officer was the managing director at Haffkine.
Amidst the severe COVID-19 situation in Pune district which has also been declared as a hotspot, (now) former Pune district collector Naval Kishore Ram was transferred to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) on August 4. He was asked to join in three weeks. He recently took charge of his new office.
After the exit of Ram, there were three potential contenders for the post of collector including Deshmukh, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) chief executive officer Yogesh Mhase and Latur district collector G Shrikant. Meanwhile, Pune Zilha Parishad’s chief executive officer Ayush Prasad was working as in-charge collector till a new appointment was declared.
