Mumbai/Nashik, January 24, 2021: Farmers of Maharashtra have now joined the peasant movement against agricultural laws. Farmers in 21 districts of the state are participating in a rally from Nashik to Mumbai i.e. 180 km. They will hold a meeting on reaching Mumbai and may also include NCP President Sharad Pawar. Pawar’s party is part of the coalition running the government in the state.

Thousands of farmers gathered in Nashik on Saturday before the farmers’ tractor rally on 26 January on the Delhi border. The farmers provided a video to the news agencies. Flags and banners are visible in the hands of farmers. This march, being carried out under the banner of All India Kisan Sabha will reach Mumbai in a few hours.

Pawar had warned the Center that while talking about farmers protesting on the Delhi border in the bitter winter, Pawar warned the Central Government that if they did not succeed in solving the problems of the farmers, serious consequences would arise. He stated that the government should not test the patience of farmers.

Farmers from Punjab and Haryana have been protesting against the new agricultural laws since 26 November on the Delhi border. The farmers demand that the government withdraw these laws. But, the government is not ready to do so.

There have been 12 meetings between the government and farmers on this issue. Still, no solution was agreed upon. The government had proposed to cancel the law for a year and a half. However, farmer organizations demand that the law be withdrawn completely.
