Camp, 27th August 2021: Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation’s (MSRDC) Ringroad in Pune district will affect farmers’ lands, said senior social activist Dr Baba Adhav. Under his leadership, the affected farmers staged a protest in front of the Council Hall today.

It was demanded that their representatives should be allowed to hold a joint meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Public Works Minister Eknath Shinde.

Today the affected farmers from six talukas of the district gathered and raised slogans. Senior social worker Dr Adhav along with, Nitin Pawar, Pralhad Bargade, Rajendra Chorghe, Dnyanoba Patil, Deepak Bhadale, Manik Shinde, Rajendra Gade, Pandit Gawde, Prakash Bhalerao, and other affected farmers were also present in the agitation.

About 3,912 acres of land in Haveli, Purandar, Bhor, Mulshi, Maval, and Khed talukas of the district will be affected in this ring road. It includes two and a half thousand acres of irrigated agricultural land. As a result, 1,266 families will become landless and the total number of affected people is 20,000, the farmers said.

They demanded to cancel the proposed design of the East and West Ring Road. Instead of redeveloping the ring road from agricultural land, it should be done from forest lands and hilly areas. Its width should be reduced to 30 meters along the service road. Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) ring road should be developed first. Five times the market price of land should be paid.  One hundred percent subsidy scheme for the job, education, and self-employment should be started by giving ‘project-affected certificate’ to the affected farmers. Reserve quota for petrol, diesel, kerosene, gas licenses should be given. One hundred percent reservation should be made for the project-affected landowners in the convenience business along the proposed road. The affected people should be provided with houses in the same village along with housing subsidies, the farmers demanded.
