Fatal Collision on Pune-Mumbai Highway: Three Dead and Three Injured in Container Crash
Lonavala, 11th November 2023: A tragic accident unfolded today on the Old Mumbai – Pune Highway, in front of Mayur Retreat between Lonavala and Khandala, as a speeding container overturned, resulting in a collision with two two-wheelers. The incident, which occurred around 2:45 pm, claimed the lives of two individuals, including a small girl, and left three others injured.
According to available information, a large container, in violation of the prohibition on heavy vehicles on the national highway passing through Lonavala city, was traveling from Pune towards Mumbai. After passing a short distance beyond Lonavala city, the container overturned on a slope and bend, colliding with two two-wheelers heading towards Lonavala.
Tragically, a small girl and two individuals lost their lives in this horrific accident, while a small child and two others sustained injuries. The incident has raised concerns about the enforcement of regulations on heavy vehicles in the Lonavala area.
Kiran Gaikwad, a resident of Lonavala, has demanded the registration of a culpable homicide case against the driver of the container. Gaikwad emphasized that despite the Collector Pune’s ban on the entry of heavy vehicles on the national highway passing through Lonavala city during the day, these vehicles continue to breach the restriction. The tragic loss of innocent lives on a festival day has sparked calls for stricter enforcement of rules to prevent such incidents in the future.
