Final Decision On Reopening Of Schools In Pune On Saturday: Mayor Mohol

Pune, 20th January 2022: Though Maharashtra state government has approved to reopen schools from January 24, we will decide in this regard on Saturday during COVID review meeting, informed Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol.

He added, “The state government has asked the local authorities to decide based on Coronavirus disease (COVID19) situation. The number of corona-positive patients in the city is increasing rapidly. Today itself the recorded number of corona positive patients is near 7000. I spoke with some paediatricians in this regard who have asked think before opening the schools.”

He further added, “In the first wave of Covid, children in the age group 1-18 had very mild symptoms but now children getting infected by the virus are showing symptoms like fever, or other mild symptoms.”

He also informed that on coming Saturday, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will have a meeting with the District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar in this regard. “After this meeting, PMC will contact parents, parents associations, hospitals, etc. before taking any further decisions,” said Mohol.

Corona positive patients in Pune city are increasing rapidly. “PMC will always put children’s health first before making any decisions”, said Mohol.

Pune Mayor also informed that from the past one month, 3500 children in the city got affected by the coronavirus. 100 children needed to take treatment from hospitals.

“Today itself 64 children from the age group 1-18 are admitted in the hospital due to Covid. By considering all this data, the government will take a decision after talking to doctors, taking permission from parents’ associations,” stated Mohol.

He said that the PMC is still in dilemma about the decision made by the state government. But the final decision will be made on Saturday after the meeting with the Guardian Minister.
