Pune University Cancels Decision To Shift Journalism Department From Ranade Institute

Pune, 14th August 2021: Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant today visited Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

After this,  the decision to merge and transfer the Department of Communications and Journalism from the Ranade Institute building on Ferguson Road was overturned. SPPU registrar Prafulla Pawar had to issue an order immediately.

Samat visited Ranade Institute and held a meeting with SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor N.S. Umrani, Registrar Dr. Prafulla Pawar. President of Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh Mangesh Kolpakar, General Secretary Sujit Tambade, Vice President Sudip Dange, President of Pune Shramik Patrakar Pratishthan Jitendra Ashtekar were also present on the occasion.

SPPU had decided to merge the Department of Communication and Journalism and the Department of Media and Communication Studies which is located on the campus on University Road. However, the merger of the two departments was finally postponed by the university on Friday following a dispute over the relocation of the Ranade Institute to the university. Now the decision was finally cancelled today.
